Run mummy, run!
Until my son started school buggy running was a big part of my training, especially as my husband spent quite a lot of time away due to work commitments. It was either running with the buggy or no exercising at all. However it was never a chore for me. Having my son with me whilst out running was a great way to spend time together. It also helped us through the days when he struggled to settle because of teething or growth spurts. As soon as I put him into the buggy he calmed down and soon fell asleep. You can say it was a welcome rest for both of us. From a very early age my little boy saw me exercising outdoors and it had such a positive impact on him. As soon as he was able to walk he would play running races and he generally enjoyed being active.
Also running with the buggy improved my fitness and run performance immensely. Having to push over 25kg up the hills is a very intensive form of resistance training. Buggy running is no easy workout, far from! And there are a few things to consider when you start as it is different from ‘just’ running. Your range of movement is restricted due to the buggy in front of you and pushing a weight requires good core strength and posture.
I have developed a BUGGY COUCH TO 5K COURSE that focusses exactly on the right technique for buggy running. We will work on running form and regaining strength after giving birth. The course aims at Mums ( or Dads ;-) ) who would like to get back to fitness, start running or want to meet up with likeminded people. Over the years it was fantastic to see people getting fitter, more confident and simply enjoying spending time with their children whilst being active. Some of my former course participants even went on to run their first half marathon or finished their first triathlon. Once you start there really isn’t anything that can stop you from setting new goals!
